The Problem
Compassus relied on referrals for 22% of hires, but as they expanded nationwide, they needed a more scalable and nurse-friendly process to grow that number meaningfully
Compassus consistently had a need for clinical talent, especially nurses, to support their growing partnerships and all their patient-care plans.
They had an existing employee referral program administered in Workday but it required email login and was not user-friendly for their frontline workforce. They wanted to make the referral experience more accessible, easy and visible for their frontline nurses to help them source talent.
Solution with Eqo
Compassus launched Eqo on top of Workday to offer their nurses a simple, text-based referral experience and maximize employee awareness through targeted SMS campaigns
Compassus now provides a user-friendly referral experience that allows their nurses to make employee referrals through text in 15 seconds with no logins required. Their TA teams also keep their nurses engaged in making referrals by sending regular text campaigns through Eqo regarding hard-to-fill roles and extra referrals bonuses for these roles.
The Results
In 17 months, Compassus elevated their employee referral rate from 22% to 35%, sourcing 896 home-health hires. These hires had a 50% lower turnover than non-referrals and were brought on board 17 days faster.
For nursing roles, non-referral hire turnover was at 50%. For referral nursing hires, turnover is at 22% to date.
They also achieved an impressive 36.8% application-to-hire rate for employee referrals – far surpassing their other sources of 7%.
Employees loved the new referring experience. Their average employee rating of the new text-experience is 4.69/5 stars.
One highlighted employee review: “Much easier as I have missed out on referral bonuses in the past”
